Suspicious Activity Reporting

“If You SEE Something, SAY Something™”

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management wants every Minnesotan to know they have an opportunity, in fact a responsibility, to make their community safer. Residents know better than anyone else what is out of place. Examples may include:

  • Picture taking of entrances and exits at public buildings
  • Entering restricted area
  • Leaving a package unattended

The nationwide “If You See Something, Say Something™” public awareness campaign – is a simple and effective program to raise public awareness of terrorism-related crime and to emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the proper local law enforcement authorities.

Take Action

Don’t leave it to someone else. If you see something suspicious, call 911 or your local authorities and report the suspicious activity. HSEM and the federal Department of Homeland Security are training law enforcement across Minnesota on what to do when they receive suspicious activity reports. They have a system in place to spot trends and will follow up. Your call could be the one that makes the difference. Factors such as race, ethnicity, national origin, or religious affiliation alone are not suspicious. The public should report only suspicious behavior and situations rather than beliefs, thoughts, ideas, expressions, associations, or speech unrelated to terrorism or other criminal activity.
